Happy Monday, Friends!
It’s a new week and for that I am very, very grateful.
I apologize that I wasn’t a faithful blogger last week but I’m ready to get back on the horse and to start off, I’d like to show you my super-cheap entryway closet makeover!
For those of you who like the show Friends, I’m a Monica.
Seriously. I’m a Monica through and through.
I even have a “freak-closet” despite wanting everything to be in its place.
Actually, it’s my neurotic need to make everything pretty that encourages the freak-closet.
Out of sight means out of mind when it comes to random stuff that doesn’t have a home.

My freak-closet is in the entryway and whenever my husband opens the door,
he hums the theme song from Sanford and Son.
You know the one:
“Bu-da-burr-na, bu-da-burr-na-na-na-na!”
And you can see why…
So I started off by emptying the closet of EVERYTHING
I had cords, picture frames, gift bags,
artificial flowers, my diploma…
and a cauldron of Halloween candy that my other half enjoyed hidden in the closet.
With everything cleaned out, the closet was like a blank canvas!
I was very inspired by a post Wendy wrote at The Shabby Nest about using wrapping paper to jazz up plain walls. The problem was, I couldn’t find paper that I loved.
I ended up finding a new roll of wallpaper at Goodwill for 75 cents.
My wonderful hubby helped me hang it in the back of the closet.
I sure do love that man.
Next, I found an old board in the garage that would work well as wall art…
so I covered it in burlap then stenciled our last name.
The blue boxes on the top shelf are from the Dollar Tree.
There is one for Travis and one for me so we have a place to store miscellaneous things like gloves and hats.
The wooden hangers were $12 for a set of 20 at Big Lots.
The basket in the center was something I already had but “dressed up” with a 25 cent wood plaque from Goodwill that I painted with chalkboard paint. It holds board games and decks of cards
for easy access when we have company.
I created additional storage for mail by cutting up cereal boxes…
I cut the cereal boxes in half, covered them in leftover wallpaper and stenciled a “1” and a “2.”
This works as our “in” and “out” for mail.
Three small hooks under the boxes give us a place to hang keys and the dog’s leash. Another hook placed inside the closet gives me a place to hang my computer bag at the end of the day.
This canister is actually made to store toilet paper but it works well as an umbrella stand. It was something we had sitting around the house so it didn’t cost me a thing!
I also have to give my husband a BIG pat on the back for his homemade light. He managed to create a great, battery-operated LED light for me that puts off a nice glow. He’s so good to me.
Total Cost: $25.75
